One of the main purposes of authoring these books is helping us all, myself included, learn about the hidden truth in history and not just accept what we have been told.
Below are fascinating topics of historical research behind the AMERICA Series that illuminate truths that have been unknown, forgotten, or ignored. Once I started looking at the history of the Columbus expedition, more and more things did not add up. Questions that got me started were things like: Why was Juan Niño the only major leader of the Columbus expedition who didn't have a Wikipedia page? Why did Columbus agree to turn back if land wasn't sighted in three days? Why did the Church support the Columbus expedition if they thought the world was flat? What island should I use to write about Columbus' first landfall?
These and other questions caused me to look deeper. I include my background research on this website because some of my most startling discoveries are embedded in the fictional narrative and readers may not stop to realize how significant the real-world implications are. 1492 was one of the most significant years in world history. The first documented transoceanic crossing, the first Africans to reach the Americas, the first transcontinental spread of a sexually transmitted disease, and the first attempted blood transfusion — in addition to shifts in the historic oppression of African peoples and Jews.
For those, like myself, for whom the greatest fiction is fiction that teaches something new, I hope the AMERICA Series and the research behind it teaches all of us something we didn't know before.
